Enhanced benefits offered during pregnancy; implants included with prosthodontic benefits
Delta Dental Insurance Company, Delta Dental of Pennsylvania and Delta Dental of California now offer enhanced benefits for pregnant women and implant coverage with most of our standard Delta Dental Premier® and Delta Dental PPOSM plans.
Enhanced benefits for pregnant women
Some studies suggest a link between oral health and low birth weight and/or preterm deliveries. Although more research is ongoing, evidence indicates that the enhanced services are safe, will improve oral health and may reduce the incidence of a negative outcome of the pregnancy. Benefits include (in addition to the number provided annually in the patient’s plan):
- One oral evaluation (codes D0120-D0180), and one of the following:
- An adult prophylaxis (D1110)
- Within the scope of standard periodontal reporting guidelines, up to four quadrants of periodontal scaling and root planing (D4341, D4342)
- A periodontal maintenance procedure (D4910)
Dental implant coverage offered as standard benefit
In addition, we offer coverage for dental implants, implant-supported prosthetics and other implant services to renewing groups as standard prosthodontic benefits in our Delta Dental Premier and Delta Dental PPO plans.
Dental implant services (dental implants, implant/abutment-supported prosthetics and some other implant services) are subject to the patient’s annual maximum and prosthodontic limitations and exclusions. For example, if a plan has a five-year limitation on other prosthodontics, such as partial dentures, the same five-year limitation will apply to implants or implant-related prosthodontics.
Clients may or may not choose to offer these enhanced benefits
New plan purchasers and existing clients may or may not choose to offer these enhanced benefits. For current clients, these benefits will become effective, if accepted, at the time the client renews coverage.
